The number one question I get asked is not about the C25K program, training plans, shoes, or even fueling.
The question I get asked most often is, “What Garmin do you use?”
Maybe it’s because I have it plastered all over my Instagram feed.
Maybe? ::wink::

I have the Garmin Forerunner 405.
There is a newer version out and also several other models that aren’t quite as expensive, such as the 110 or the 10. I can’t speak about them personally, but I’ve heard good things.
Why did I buy the 405? Well . . .
Because Skinny Runner uses it. And I want to be like her. No joke.
By the way, she’s tall, blonde and a super fast runner.
I’m short, brunette, and not a super fast runner.
So, basically we’re twins.
Before I started using my Garmin, I used the Nike+ app. I really wanted something to give me a constant read out of different things ~ average pace, instant pace, time running, distance, etc. I also really wanted to know my splits. Nike+ may have updated their app to include these things and there may be other apps out there that have these capabilities. I don’t know.
What I do know is . . . . I love my Garmin so much, I bought one for oldest son and my husband.
I use it for cycling, running and walking. It gives me an estimate of calories burned per mile, which is nice.
I love that I can just look down at my wrist and see how long I’ve been running, what my pace is and how far I’ve run. I love that I don’t have to carry my phone with me if I don’t want to.
My husband and I only have one complaint with the 405 ~ the sensitivity of the touch bezel. We both have taken to locking the bezel after we get started.
Other than the touch bezel, I have such warm fond feelings of affection for my Garmin that I can say like Mr. Darcy said to Elizabeth (Hollywood version – not BBC version . . . don’t hate), “You have bewitched me body and soul and I love . . . I love . . . I love you.”
Amen.

I looooove mine too!!
oh my gosh you are funny! I love the P&P line! I love both versions too and my sisters are ALWAYS hatin’ on the hollywood version!
Okay, this may be a stupid question, but are they unisex or do they make mens & women’s separately? I have been thinking of getting one for my husband for Christmas, but I know nothing about them.
Not stupid at all! I think the 110 model comes in some girl colors, but other than that I would say they’re unisex.
I recently got the new Garmin Forerunner 10 and I love it! It doesn’t have as many features but it keeps my distance, pace, and time plus some other stuff. I’ve been really pleased with it. Oh and it’s pink
you lost me at the hollywood version…no, no wait…you lost me with the word run.
I loooooovvvveeee my Garmin!!!!!
Thank you for this post Ruthanne! All of my pennies just went to purchase a Vitamix. But this is next on my list!!
I have the garmin 110 with the heart monitor and love it, feel naked without it! Works very well, have had only a few times on trail runs where it gets a little screwy.
OMG! I got my 1st Garmin the 305 becuse Katie AKA Runs for Cookies had it and then the 910 because she switched and loved it. Plus I am a SUCKER for gadgets!!
Quick question about your Garmin:
Would you buy the same one again, if you had it to do all over again?
Are there any features that you wish it had that it doesn’t?
I”m trying to wade through all the info and can’t really make a good decision yet, because as a new runner, it’s hard to know what all I will eventually want and come to need. Does that makes sense? Thanks for your input! I admire you girl.
Yes, I would buy the same one. A lot of it is in what you get used to. I know it so well now. I love the way it fits and feels on my arm. Even though the bezel is sensitive, I love the ease of it, too. There isn’t as much button pushing with my Garmin as with other ones.
It took a little getting used to as far as the size of it. I felt like it was huge, but not anymore. I love how big the numbers are.
Honestly, I can’t think of any other feature I would ask for.
I just recently saw a review on one of the less expensive models: http://www.musingsofahousewife.com/2012/10/garmin-forerunner-10-review.html
I know it’s overwhelming.
You look amazing!
