Another question I get asked often is, “What do you eat? What’s a typical day like?”
I’ve shared before that I try to keep my daily caloric intake around 1200 – 1500 calories.
This is just a rough breakdown of how I try to spread out my calories during the day.
Breakfast ~ 225 to 250 calories
Lunch ~ Under 300 calories
Dinner ~ 450 – 650 calories
Snacks ~ 225 – 450 calories
I usually have a mid-morning snack, a mid-afternoon snack and a late evening snack. Yes, I snack. A lot. Some of my favorite snack foods are apples, bananas, clementines, strawberries, mixed nuts, clif bars, baby carrots, dark chocolate and popcorn.
Also, as a general rule, I don’t drink my calories. Although, I’m not opposed to indulging in a treat from Starbucks on occasion. Or a bottle of dark beer. Or a glass of wine. ::snort:: But, seriously, I don’t usually drink my calories. I view it as a treat.
Note: Some of the recipes I’ve linked to over at Dashing Dish require a membership in order to access. I pay $5 a month and in my opinion, it’s totally worth it.
BREAKFAST:
Giant One Minute Breakfast Cookie w/ 1 C sliced strawberries

LUNCH:
Salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, shredded cheese, turkey, avocado)
Protein Shake
Turkey Sandwich w/ Carrots (sandwich thin, turkey, avocado)
Sandwich Thin Pizza w/ Carrots
DINNER:
This is just a small sampling of dinners I try to rotate through regularly.
Deep Dish Spaghetti Pizza Pie – I use Carba Nada noodles I found at our local Kroger.
Skinny Fish and Chips
Turkey Burgers with Zucchini
Taco Salad
Asian Glazed Drumsticks
Healthy Baked Chicken Nuggets
Chicken and Mushrooms in Garlic White Wine Sauce
Pioneer Woman’s Comfort Meatballs – I only try to make these on double workout days and I’m not gonna lie . . . I have a hard time being good when these are around.

If you are a calorie counter, how do you try to spread your calories out during the day?
Are you a snacker?
What are some of your favorite dinner recipes?

Ruthanne I never drink my calories either, and if i want to “spice” it up I will drink sparkling water! I know living on the edge! Tee hee I try to drink 100 oz of water a day.
I love sparkling water, too!
Excellent. I generally don’t drink my calories either, although lately I have been drinking Shakeology which is comprised of a lot of nutrients that I may be missing from my eating plan. I usually only drink it for a snack or for breakfast. Thanks for these resources! Can’t wait to check out more Yummy food options!
I don’t view Shakeology (or Protein Shakes for that matter) as drinking my calories. When I think about drinking my calories, it’s more about alcohol or froo froo coffee from Starbucks.
I actually just ordered some chocolate Shakeology. Can’t wait to try it out!
I am a calorie counter, but I am a snacker too, so I try and eat really small (calorie wise)portions, because I know I will want to snack. Maybe I’ll eat one whole egg for breakfast and then mid-morning have a yogurt, etc. It words better for me if I spread my eating out. I am less likely to pig-out that way.
I really want to try one of those protein shakes. I am going to follow your link to the recipe. I always enjoy seeing how and what other people eat successfully.

Let me know what you think of her protein shakes. I use the cottage cheese that she recommends and it is SUPER creamy and I hate cottage cheese.
I use FitDay to do my calorie counting and try to keep the net around 1200 calories a day.
I usually drink black coffee first thing in the morning, then go for a walk/jog. (More walking than jogging, but I’m working up to it).
I skip breakfast. I know, I know… but it works for me.
Lunch is usually a salad.
Dinner is where I eat most of my calories. I’m eating no sugar.
I also don’t drink my calories. After my morning coffee, it’s water for the rest of the day. Or sometimes a cup of hot tea in there now and then. Unsweetened.
