Another training run down. One more to go.
I was optimistically hopeful about the weather before Saturday morning came around. When I stepped out of the van a little before 5 AM yesterday, I squealed a little bit. I felt a cool breeze. I always feel better when I run in cooler weather versus the heat.
And yes, you read that right. 5 AM . . . . I ran with a flashlight for the first hour.
I started out with a group of about seven (?) runners from the local running group who were planning on getting 20 miles in that day. We put in right at 5 miles before meeting up with another group of runners who meet at 6 AM. The 20 milers were headed out on a 10 mile loop, so I decided to stick with the 6 AM group.
I had a peanut butter GU just before taking off. It was a new flavor for me and I liked it.
Side note: I’m experimenting with other GU flavors. Some without caffeine. ::gasp:: I know, right? Since April, when I started going to the 5 AM class at the gym, I’ve drastically cut back the amount of caffeine I consume. On my 9 mile run I had an espresso love GU and had to do some unplanned speed work to get to the house (good thing I had the bright idea to run on our road for 9 boooring miles). My tummy did not love the double caffeine in the espresso love. Sad face.
I felt so good setting out on the last six miles, but my Garmin decided to have a fit and started peeping and flashing “lap error” every second. I couldn’t figure out what was going on.
Super.
Annoying.
I switched to my Nike+ app on my phone.

When it was all said and done, I had run 11.08 miles in 1:58 and I felt like I could keep on going.
I love runs like that!
I feel like it’s not really fair to compare this 11-miler to my previous one because on the last one I was severely dehydrated and didn’t even know it.

I’m hoping for cool weather on the 26th. Fingers crossed.
Thanks for cheering me on, y’all! I carry each of y’all in my head and heart as I run.

You rock! I am always amazed by runners! You are an inspiration to me and my desire to start running regularly!
Aww! Thanks, Amy!
That is fantastic! I jogged 4 1/2 miles today but 11……you rock!
4 1/2 miles is awesome! Be proud of any distance you’re able to cover. Most days I run 3 miles.
I just did 11 miles yesterday, I love the Nike plus app….just started using it!!
Trying to get ready for a half in Sept 2!
Awesome job on your running!!!
Way to go, Sara!
Way to go girl!
When I trained for my first marathon I had a fun time discovering that I can’t have gatorade and gel’s during my run. It took me a few weeks to realize that’s why I have having stomach issues. So now I stick to gel’s and water.
My fave gel’s are PowerBar – Vanilla. They used to make a caramel one, but discontinued it years ago. And I am that persistent consumer that emails them every now and again requesting to bring the flavor back.
I’m not a fan of Gatorade either. ::shivers::
I haven’t tried the PowerBar brand. Maybe I’ll try it out for my next half.
I just purchased a new high support bra because I was doubling up. Seamed a little tight on my ribs and my breathing was a little restricted. Didn’t feel my best going in to my run as I had drank a bottle of water and a Carmel macchiato (that’s why I HAD to run) anyways I did 5k in 30 mins. Not as good as I’d like as I had to walk now and again but I still did it and didn’t stay on the couch. I only drink water on my runs so far. What is the point of GU’s and what are they? I know Gatorade but do I need it? Great job on 11 miles! Not sure I’ll get there. But I’m farther than I thought I’d go already so who knows. I wish winter wouldn’t come with all it’s snow and cold. Might do an AZ run in January with my daughters 23 and 17. Guess I’ll be resorting to my dreaded treadmill
Anytime you’re running longer than an hour you need nutrition – to replace lost carbohydrates, electrolytes, etc. Last Saturday, I ran for almost two hours and had one GU. I probably could have had another one, but didn’t. If I was only running six, seven, or even eight miles, I wouldn’t take one. It just depends.
Looooove the Caramel Macchiato! That’s my drug of choice from Starbucks.
Way to go, momma! Nice run! I’m hoping to tackle my first 11 miler this weekend. I’ve hit 10 miles a few times… I just need to push past.
