Disclaimer #1: My husband was hyped up on three cups of coffee when he snapped these pictures with my iPhone. If you notice any blur, shaking or otherwise strangeness, we’ll just blame it on the caffeine.
Hey, y’all!
I’ve done something wild and crazy. I’ve ventured out of my comfort zone and tried something new.
I bought a running skirt! Yes, a skirt.
I have seen them around and I’ve secretly longed to have one, but been afraid.
First of all, I’m self-conscious of my legs. I’m not just a white girl. I’m a WHITE girl. ::snort::
Secondly, I have chafing issues with my inner thighs. I had no idea how ladies wore running skirts without their inner thighs rubbing against one another. Did only women who don’t have that issue wear running skirts?
I asked around and was directed to Skirt Sports and specifically their Gym Girl Ultra Skirt.
They have a note under the description of the skirt that some of the “built-in no-creep shorties” with certain prints run tighter. Right now, I’m wearing a size 12 across the board – dresses, skirts, jeans, etc. I decided to go ahead and purchase the large, which is a size 12/14, even though I thought it would be a little tight. I’m hoping the pounds and inches continue on their downward spiral, so I wanted to make sure I would get my money’s worth out of the skirt ~ even if that meant starting out with it being a bit snug.
The shorties are definitely snug. They aren’t made of the same material as my running capris, so there isn’t as much stretch and give. I felt like I had to work to get them in the perfect position, but once I had them on they felt great. Just snug.
Did I mention snug already? ::snort::
Now, the skirt itself is not snug at all. It fits perfectly.
It’s made a full inch longer in the back to ensure coverage. I like that. Some girls have big butts. I won’t name names. ::cough Moi cough::
I was a little nervous it would be too short for this prudish chick, but I’m happy with the length. I felt comfortable the entire time I was running. I never felt “exposed” . . . Ha! It was weird for me to see more of my legs while I was running.
I kept looking down and thinking, “Wow! Those white things are my legs . . . do I spy a little muscle there? Underneath the flapping skin?”
The shorties stayed put throughout my run and there was absolutely no chafing.
Overall, I would say it’s a winner!
I ended up buying my skirt through Amazon. It was about five dollars cheaper and I was able to get free shipping.

Disclaimer #2: Skirt Sports has no idea who I am.

I think I need a skirt. My jogging shorts always ride up on me, which is awkward. I *know* no one want to see that much of my legs.
I LOVE running skirts — wear them all the time. Moving Comfort has a nice one too. Looks great on you!
I’ll need to check out Moving Comfort!
I’m so glad you reviewed these. I have been looking and looking for a skirt that is long enough in back. I’m one of those big butt girls. Ahem. Nothing worse than a skirt hiked up on my behind. Now I have to break down and buy new shoes.
What shoes do you run in?
Asics Gel Kayano 16. They now have 18s. Does that tell you something? I’ve been running in the same shoes for over a year. I kept up with the last 36 days – 91 miles of walking and running! I need new shoes!
I have the same chaffing issue! I have always blamed it on the fact that I have knocked knees…no matter how much weight I have ever lost, they always chaff! Which is totally why I shy away from running in general. I am interested in trying this skirt though, it doesn’t seem to short like most exercise skirts usually are!
Thanks for sharing
You so skeeeeeeeny!
You are such a skinny minny!
Thanks for reviewing this; I have wanted a running skirt too but have shied away for the same reason you mentioned.
Cute! It doesn’t look too short, and would be much cooler that my usual capris. Do the no-creep shorts really live up to their name? Because creeping might be an issue over here…
Megan
The no-creep shorties didn’t move an inch. I also wore them yesterday on my 8-mile run and they did great.
Hi, I have three different Gym Girl Ultra skirts which I’ve owned for almost three years. I can confirm that they shorts do not move during half marathons, elliptical trainer sessions, pilates and running errands.
They give good coverage to my rather generous rear end and seem to have solved the chaffing issues that made running a real pain. I’ve bought some cheap ‘end of line’ ones from Sierra Trading Post.
