list of dreams

catchy title, right?

i had intended to post this yesterday, but school didn’t stop happening until 5 o’clock. then, i pretty much felt like sticking a sharp object in my eye, so instead of blogging i watched episodes of sister wives of netflix.

have you seen this show?

i’m not gonna lie. i want me some sister wives. one for cleaning. one for cooking. one for grocery shopping. one for homeschooling. you get the general idea. i would look after my man. i’m territorial like that. basically, i would have the fun job.

::snort out loud::

yes, i totally just blogged that.

welcome back, ruthanne! yee-haw!

anyway, this post is about dreams. no, sister wives has not made it on my dream list. just in case you were wondering. #hardyharhar

my list isn’t complete. i’ll just be adding to it as i think of things. also, things aren’t listed in any kind of order.

the list is random.

imagine that.

1} have an espresso at a sidewalk cafe in paris.

this is probably on everybody’s dream list. well . . . unless you hate espresso. i realize this is a cheesy thing to list, but that’s okay. this is my list and i like cheese.

2} take a ride in a hot air balloon.

this one kinda skeers me. heights freak me out, but i think it would be so amazing that the beauty of it would far outweigh the fear factor. besides, it’s not like i would be traveling at great speeds, right? i mean those hot air balloons go at a gentle pace, right? right?

3} read all the jane austen books with my daughter.

i would love to experience each of her books anew through the eyes of my girl. also, i think that qualifies as bonding time.

4} go tent camping as a family.

it’s happening. this weekend.

i’m kinda skeered.

maybe i’ll blog about it. if i survive.

in all seriousness, i think i just came to the realization i don’t want my children to miss out on something {a life experience} simply because it’s not “my thing.”

5} bake a moist, yellow cake from scratch.

i’m dreaming big, y’all.

the emphasis is on the word moist. i’ve baked yellow cakes from scratch before. they were just straight up icky, crumbly and drydrydrydry. i can’t stand dry cake. blah.

i’m determined to conquer this.

**********************************************

and there you have. the first five things on my list of dreams. exciting stuff, no?

what about you? come one. ‘fess up. ;-)

and ditto the hot air balloon.

but instead of the yellow cake, I want a garden.

    Dreams:
    1. Watch Ellie get a regular HS diploma and live independently. (OK, so this might seem like a lame parent dream, but she has Down syndrome, so it’s a big one!)
    2. Go to Thailand with my husband.
    3. Become a National Board Certified teacher.
    4. Go to Spain with my husband.
    5. Qualify for the Boston Marathon.

Wow. I better start saving money.

You are a hoot! And I am so glad…I needed a snort out loud moment tonight.

Sadly enough I’m not sure I dream nearly enough. I’m sorta a “in the moment” kinda gal..but to a fault.

    Lemme think here…..

    Hmmm….

I’d love to spend my 25th wedding anniversary back in Ireland where we honeymooned almost 13 years ago. (I say 25th because I’m a worry wart and I’ll enjoy myself a lot more knowing my kids are grown and no longer need me should I crash into the ocean)

Now that I think of it…I think the big nice honeymoons should be saved for later in your marriage because I don’t think I really appreciated Ireland like I could now. I was too preoccupied being married. ;-)

And I’d love to be a Weight Watchers success story….I’ve never told a soul that. Maybe it even makes me vein I don’t know. But losing that 25 pounds was the most empowering thing I have ever done in my life. Especially keeping it off now for going on 2 years. I’m sorta proud. :-)

I’ll have to think about my dreams more often. :-)

Hot Air Balloon…ditto. Its scary(and expensive yo) but I also think it would blow my mind
Hit the mission fields of South America with my hubby….which actually begins this summer(no one knows yet…haha)
Become a runner. But I hate to sweat. And run. So yeah…theres two problems right in a row.
I was able to fulfill one of my dreams last month at BlogSugar(which was to attend a fun blogging conference. BS had all my favorite ladies in one place so it was an amazing weekend).
Thats all I can remember from my list right now:) You crack me up. And Sister Wives? DOnt even go there, my friend!

    Ditto on Paris – swoon

Buy an airstream and travel the country for a year (including the fundage necessary to do so- lol)

    land, lots of land…with a guesthouse/studio/chick hang out :)

love me some sister wives – I just don’t get them all being attracted to HIM

  8. i would love to drink a cappuccino at a sidewalk cafe, but not in paris. i have zero desire to go there. ever. (what is wrong with me?!) but i think it would be super cool to drink said caffeinated beverage in argentina. now that sounds like a sexy country to me… which totally doesn’t make sense since i have such a flat butt. don’t argentinians have booties like other south american women? maybe i’m just making that up. i might have have some sort of complex about it all.

  9. Well, I’ve done the Paris thing twice……not expresso, cafe au lait……..absolutely a dream worth going for……this time I’d like to go there with my husband,
But before that I really want to visit Ireland. I’ve never been there and it’s just calling to me. I would never in a million years dream to go camping in a tent….but I certainly understand your motivation. I dream of reading “Little Women” with my granddaughters. I’ve already tried to do it with one and she wasn’t too interested (though she’s perfect in every other way and we’ve read other great books together) my next oldest granddaughter is coming to that age and as she says she’s “a book lover” so we’ll see. The simple dreams are the best. A peaceful quiet morning free of distractions or worries with a cup of coffee looking out at the ocean….that’s my big dream….a life near the ocean. Thanks for making me dream again!

Ok, that reply was for Marsha! I love the list of dreams idea. I was thinking today of blogging “These are a few of my favorite things” as my girls are practicing that for a Co-Op program. Hot air balloons, amazing views…would love to have a camera on that…but the heights scares me so I don’t know if I could do it. I’ve been to Paris. Not my favorite city. But I get the romance of it. Someone once told me the number one reason kids will say they had a good childhood is if they go camping as a family. I thought that was interesting. I don’t know if that is true or not. But my kids love to go. I’ve made a moist yellow cake from scratch. I’ll have to send you a recipe. I have a cookbook that I swear is the best cake from scratch cookbook ever. It’s called The Cake Bible. Worth every penny and the chocolate cake rivals any bakery chocolate cake.

Lindsay (Paint Me A Pic) texted me this morning & said, “Ruthanne’s most recent blog post reminds me of you”. It’s the whole Sister Wives thing :) I love that show. It’s my guilty pleasure. My husband hates it, but I just can’t help myself. It sucks me in every time.
I love your dreams list…except for the hot air balloon ride. That scares the bejeezus out of me. My brother in law has a friend who owns a hot air balloon, and he has gone up several times. He loves it. My brother went with them one time. He said he felt like he was gonna fall out the whole time. That sounds like fun, right? Not to squash your dream or anything :)

I did your number one last year. It has ruined me. Forever. There is no going back to real life once you have sipped espresso at a cafe in Paris, strolled hand-in-hand with your husband along the Seine and drank a bottle on a bench in a church courtyard outside Notre Dame.

I have since become an avid crepe maker, a regular wine drinker, a religious rest-taker and I’m falling in love with going to Mass, even though I’m not Catholic.

Do it. Take the plunge and DO IT!
