Pinch me.

Yesterday, I got something in the mail I have been longing for for well over a year ~ a fairly {read extremely} expensive piece of equipment. I am so excited about the deal I scored on this lens. And when I say a deal, I mean a deal.

Oh, wait. Have I even told you which lens yet? Silly me. ;-) I’m referring to the 24-70 mm 2.8. {Dreamy sigh.}

Purchasing a lens like the 24-70 mm is a sizable investment. I had planned all along to purchase a new lens. Used lenses always made me nervous. However, Marsha suggested I check out B & H Photo for used lenses. They are a reputable company and have an outstanding rating system on all their used items for sale. All of my qualms just seemed to melt away. B & H also has outstanding customer service, which I learned first hand with my order. I knew my newest baby was taken care and would arrive safely on my doorstep.

I would definitely purchase used from them again!

Note: I’m not affiliated with B & H Photo. *snort*

Moving from my 50 mm 1.4 to the 24-70 mm 2.8 is kind of a shocker. The 50 mm weighs just about nothing. The 24-70 . . . . mmmm ~ that sucker’s heav-y!

Comments

  1. Oh yes! They are heavy! When we got my D90, we went with a 18-105. Compared to a 3yo on your hip, it’s nothing. In the lens world, though, it is a chunk. I would like to get a 50mm f/1.4 next.

    congrats to you! it is so heavy! i got mine about 4 months ago, and I’m getting more used to it. i forgot about my 50mm 1.4 for awhile after if arrived, but now i really appreciate the difference. i still favor the 50, but the 24-70 is so versatile. congrats!!

    Yeah, how fun. I am so used to my zoom lens that I decided that I needed to put my 50mm back on just to get some practice with it. I got way too accustomed to my zoom. I’m glad to hear a positive experience in buying used from B&H. I wondered about that and admit that I’d be a little nervous about it too.

    I’m so used to my 50 mm that it’s going to take some getting used to! I keep thinking to myself, “Wow! All that really fits in the frame?!”

    My zoom is actually a 55-250 so I still had to be back a bit. But I loved being way back and catching my kids up close without them knowing. That is the best. That is how I got a lot of my beach shots of them playing in the sand. It’s the zooming in that I love. I have to get used to the 50mm making me get up closer to get the close ups.

    Is Melissa wearing shorts? Where is her snowsuit? Were you being a nice friend by turning off your a/c for her?

    Mere minutes ago the UPS guy brought my new D300s!!! Man, that manual is HUGE. But I must. read. it. *yawn*

    You are totally making me want that lens. I get irritated on what I can and cannot fit into a shot. Show me some shots with your 50mm vs. your wide angle! I wanna see the difference!

    Ooh. That’s a good idea! I’ll definitely do a comparison.

    Yes, Melissa was in shorts and a sleeveless top. She must have been having hot flashes. ;-)

    I had a D60 with 18-55 and 55-200 kit lenses and upgraded a few months ago to a D300s and a 50 mm f/1.4. Amazing! Just ordered a 24-70 f/2.8 for a wider shot…waiting anxiously for it. Got all from B&H as well. I’m thinking it might be hard to go from f/1.4 to f/2.8 haha.
