My Momma’s Cinnamon Rolls
In a small bowl, dissolve:
2 pgks. yeast
1 tsp. sugar
1 cup very warm water
Set aside.
In a separate bowl, cream:
1/2 C sugar
1/2 C shortening {or butter}
1 T salt
Add:
1 C very warm water
2 beaten eggs
2 C flour
Add in yeast mixture.
Add 4 more cups of flour, stirring in one at a time.
Cover and let rise about 1 1/2 hours.
Shape.
Let rise 1 1/2 hours longer.
Cinnamon Filling:
3/4 C sugar
3 tsp. cinnamon {I used quite a bit more than this yesterday. It was probably more like 3 or 4 T.}
6 T butter
I baked the rolls at 375 for about 15 – 20 minutes.
The frosting I used yesterday was Pioneer Woman’s recipe. I had never made it before and let me tell y’all somethin’ . . . . Oh. My! It’s almost too rich. {I can’t even believe I’m saying that, but it’s true.}

OK I have been with this family for almost TWENTY years and have never had any cinnamon rolls. What’s up with that?

I love this picture, and love the old recipe too. I learned to make cinnamon rolls from my Grandma and every time I make them it brings back so many memories of family, being a child and learning to bake in my Grandma’s kitchen. This is a beautiful Sweet Shot!

When I get back in town, I am going back on my low carb diet. After I have a diet-kick-off party that starts with these cinnamon rolls.

Those were really great! I’ll resign and turn over the making of cinamon rolls to you permanently.

Are ya ready for movie night tonight? I suppose at some point I should go clean something in preparation, huh?

I think I’ll surprise my hubby and make these sometime. I’m not really that much of a baker, but those look great! Do you have a different icing recipe? I can’t handle too rich!
Looks delicious!

Yes, the frosting is RICH. Oh my. I had to go brush my teeth afterward.
My mom usually just did a simple glaze: powdered sugar, vanilla and milk.

If we adopted you, you would be my older sister . . . would you then force me to do one of your dance routines dressed completely in acid washed denim? *snort* For you, I would totally do it and feel no shame. That’s how much I <3 you.

Yum! One of my favorite recipes that we use of my Grandma’s is for her cinnamon rolls.
We have been trapped inside all day because of the rain. Cinnamon rolls would have been such a fun treat. I need to pick up some walnuts and make some!!
