Junior is now 8 years old. I’m still scratching my head over the quick passage of time.
Time. It seems to fly by once you’re out of school.
Junior was my first baby that I kinda, sorta, maybe, slightly planned for. The rest of my precious crew were somewhat of a surprise. Not completely. Obviously, I know how these things happen.
Junior has been both a pleasure and challenge to parent. He has turned all of my preconceived notions and ideas on their heads. He’s caused me to reevaluate my thought processes and embrace a new normal.
Junior. Hmmm. We named him right. He is truly his father’s son.
I love him like crazy.
He wanted a Star Wars themed birthday this year. Big surprise! For his birthday cake, he requested an R2D2 cake. Apparently, those particular cake pans are not in production anymore. However, you can purchase them on e-bay for around $80.
Mmmkay? I think not.
Since I felt crunched for time, I broke down and ordered a cake from one of our local grocery stores. Oh. My. Word. It was the ugliest cake. Of all time. Ever. And I paid money for it.
{Please insert silent weeping. Thankyouverymuch.}
Thankfully, he loved it. He couldn’t stop raving about how cool it was. Boys. Gotta love the ease with which they love and accept things. So low maintenance.
I wish I could grab a remote and put life on slow motion. I hate to think that eight more years will fly by and before I’m ready for it, we will be celebrating his 16th birthday. At which time, I’ll be 40. Gulp.

Happy Birthday Junior.
I have had baby fever quite a bit in the past several months. I’ve realized it’s not because I want more kids per se, but more along the lines of wanting my kids to be babies again. Even if it’s just for a brief moment. *sigh*. And about how old you’ll be when he’s 16…. psh.

He looks like he had a fabulous birthday! And if I had 8 years to wait before I turned 40, I’d be doing backflips; so don’t go complaining about that. : )

Awww… HAPPY 8th BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!
Although you care about taste when it comes to baked goodies, I think kids are more into how colored the icing is and what kind of cool toys are perched on top. Wow, how cool would an R2D2 cake be?! I’m glad you were able to get him a Star Wars cake– it doesn’t get more fun than that!
Pish posh to your 40 fears. Besides wrinkles and slower metabolism, getting older isn’t so bad.

Wow! Our kids are so close in ages! I have a 13, 10, 8, 6, and 4 year old (plus the 18 and 23yos).
I agree that that was an ugly cake that any 8 year old boy would love. Mine would. They’re into the same stuff, too. We just mailed Star Wars: The Clone Wars back to Netflix. I think we saw it in the theater for his birthday last year.
Happy 8th!
