Thank you so very much to all of you who gave me some comment love the past couple of days. Let me tell ya ~ posting on another site is slightly nerve wracking.
For those of you new to this series on how we’re implementing the Workbox System, here’s Part I and Part II.
I thought I would do this post a little different. I’m going to show you my 2nd
Grader’s actual basket from earlier this week and then list other items I use to fill his folders. You will see several overlapping ideas from Part II.
Folder 1 ~ Handwriting
He is typically assigned one page a day. If he has questions, I answer those for him before he begins and then he works independently.
Folder 2 ~ Coloring Picture
We’ve been studying the process of how the Egyptians made papyrus. When he completes this coloring picture, it will be added to his history notebook.
Folder 3 ~ Snack
Folder 4 ~ Listening Time
This is probably his favorite part of the school day!
I’ve exhausted all the audio books containing CDs at our local library. I’ve had to resort to cassette tapes. Can I get a unanimous groan?!
Folder 5 ~ Copywork
We are memorizing the Ten Commandments, so I have the ones we’ve memorized so far written on my board and he copies them down.
Folder 6 ~ Shurley English
Folder 8 ~ Math
Folder 9 ~ God’s World Newsletter
Folder 10 ~ Craft Project
Some of the lessons in Shurley English call for craft projects to reinforce a certain concept or just for fun.
Folder 11 ~ Book Basket Time
Folder 12 ~ Wrap-ups
He loves these and they’re perfect for him to work on independently.
Other things used to fill his folders:
~Dictation
~Flash cards
~A specific book (one from the book basket)
~Computer game
~File folder activities (These cover all kinds of skills)
~Puzzles
~Maps
~A book for him to read to his 3 year old brother (Good for both of them!)
The order of his folders change daily and I try to mix up the items within the folders ~ that way things always feel fresh and new.

I'm groaning with you on the cassette tapes — half the time we can't even understand what they're saying so we end up reading the book ourselves.
I love seeing your system!

I love love love the way you've modified the workbox system. I had seen the plstic containers on the shoe cart version so many times but personally I think that's just a huge waste of space and money. Your way makes so much more sense and fits our tiny house so much better. Thanks for sharing!!!

I love that you have taken the time to share so thoughtfully with the rest of us what is working for you
I love this whole system and believe it will work beautifully in our home as well. I will post on it once we have been able to get a couple of weeks under our belts and pass along my ever so grateful shout out to you in there! lol
